Critical Incident Virtual Trust Solutions (CIVTS)

Research shows that there is a direct correlation between levels of trust and the success of organizations in achieving their stated goals and objectives.  The need for organizations to identify and measure the levels of “Swift Trust” (Meyerson, Weick, & Kramer, 1996), “Traditional Trust” (Jarvenpaa, Knoll, & Leidner, 1998), and the impact of trust on organizational climate and culture have become increasingly more critical to joint military operations.  This CPDS project will use current trust theories to identify trust constructs. To determine the levels of swift and traditional trust within organizations, investigators will interview military personnel, as well as, civilian executives and employees utilizing the Critical Incident Analysis Method (CIAM) as opposed to the Survey Method to analyze Organizational Climate and Culture.  Critical incidents will be examined for trust constructs that can be used to create a correlation matrix showing relationships between numbers of trust constructs present, levels of swift and traditional trust, and accomplishment of organizational objectives.  The research will provide military leaders with a quick response tool for measuring organizational trust and climate and allow for the creation of virtual reality based critical incident training modules utilizing modern adult learning theory.
